1) Everyone has a different photographing/Editing style.
And that’s what makes all of this so great! Whether you love nature, still-life’s or people and whether you edit in bright, contrast-y color or in ALL B&W (or somewhere fun in between) it’s YOUR work. Your style sets you apart.
2) Be honest and upfront about EVERYTHING.
This includes pricing, how long it will take for them to get their touched and untouched photos, and if you charge extra for another 15 minutes of shooting. This avoids MOST confrontation and keeps your client at ease and makes them feel like they can trust you.
3) Try it at least once.
You don’t think you’ll like photographing your friends new-born baby, but you have no idea cause you’ve never done it. It’s okay to not like certain things, but keep an open mind. And remember, you can always put your own twist on things! Diversity looks great in a portfolio or website.
4) Be a people person.
Even if your not. Everyone takes well to someone who is sociable, sweet and is confident about what they are doing.
5) Most people don’t know how much work goes into shooting and editing.
So DO NOT sell yourself short. When someone asks you how much you charge, put a price on it that matches up well with the amount of work you are willing to put into that shoot. Always be confident about your work and the price tag your putting on it. There will be people who are not willing to pay a certain amount of money for you or your work..but remember..there’s someone out there who is.
6) Be patient.
Especially with adults. ( I bet you thought I was going to say KIDS!). If your into taking pictures of people like I am, your going to come across a lot of people who aren’t particularly comfortable behind a camera. They usually don’t see what you see. Always be kind and encouraging, bring out the best in them. And always. be. patient.
7) Enjoy yourself every step of the way.
I mean, you love taking photo’s, right? Enjoy every season in strengthening your talent. People can always tell when you love what you do. And trust me, it will gravitate them towards you.
